Overview

BerryDunn is seeking an experienced Health Information Technology (HIT) professional to join our State Government Practice Group (SGPG). This role will focus on providing expert guidance and professional consulting services to state and territory government Health and Human Services (HHS) agencies, including Medicaid agencies. The senior consultant will initially work primarily in the San Juan, Puerto Rico region in a remote/office hybrid capacity. This position will support the client in implementing the Health Information Exchange (HIE)/Health Data Utility (HDU) strategic roadmap, partnering closely with the Puerto Rico Medicaid Program leadership team, the healthcare provider community, payers, and IT vendors. The senior consultant will report to a SGPG HHS principal and will work under the guidance and direction of the leadership team for BerryDunn’s engagement with the Puerto Rico Department of Health.

 

Travel expectations: Travel outside of Puerto Rico may be up to 25% initially to attend conferences and meetings in other states or territories; however, travel may increase up to 50% if the senior consultant begins to participate in projects outside of Puerto Rico.

You Will

  • Partner with state and territory HHS agencies and IT departments to assess current enterprise and information systems frameworks and interoperability models, identify modernization needs, and design future-state strategies to achieve organizational goals.
  • Provide oversight and guidance on health IT system implementation, including interoperability, data exchange standards, and system integration.
  • Facilitate stakeholder engagement and communication, ensuring alignment with clinical, technical, and regulatory requirements.
  • Develop and maintain detailed project plans, risk assessments, and progress reports.
  • Facilitate internal and external team meetings, managing projects according to BerryDunn standards.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to align IT solutions with business goals and ensure successful outcomes across projects.
  • Implement and develop HIE service use cases to both establish and add value to the healthcare continuum in service of developing a sustainable business model for private revenue generation.
  • Support procurement planning by developing technical and business needs and developing procurement-related documentation.
  • Monitor project performance and support optimization and scalability.
  • Mentor junior team members and contribute to practice growth through knowledge sharing and continuous improvement.

You Have

  • Bachelor’s degree in health, management, or IT related field
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in HIT and project management
  • Proven experience leading teams, managing HIT projects, and supporting system modernization initiatives
  • Experience writing healthcare related communications to engage healthcare professionals including presenting in executive meetings regarding strategic and implementation plans
  • Strong understanding of healthcare service clinical information needs and workflows as it relates to the exchange of health information for treatment and payment purposes
  • Strong understanding of health information exchange topics including data quality standards and terminology
  • Strong understanding of project life cycle methodologies (Agile, Waterfall, etc.)
  • Strong understanding of both front-end and back-end technologies, system architecture, and integration approaches for electronic health information systems including electronic health records (EHRs) and health information interoperability services
  • Experience working directly with solution vendors, providing guidance on requirements, integration, testing, and deployment
  • Understanding of application programming interfaces (APIs) and data migration strategies
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and customer service skills
  • Experience working with or advising state or territory government agencies
  • Willingness and ability to travel up to 50%
  • Fluent in both Spanish and English

Compensation Details

The base salary range targeted for this role is $80,000 - $135,000. This salary range represents BerryDunn’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. If an applicant possesses experience, education, or other qualifications more than the minimum requirements for this posting, that applicant is encouraged to apply, and a final salary range may then be based on those additional qualifications; compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, years of experience, depth of experience, seniority, merit, education, training, amount of travel, and other relevant business considerations.
