Overview

BerryDunn is seeking a Tax Manager to join our growing Real Estate Practice. In this role, you will lead and manage multiple tax engagements, delivering high-quality services to our real estate clients. This position is planned to sit in our Portland, ME, Bangor, ME, Manchester, NH or Waltham, MA office locations or remotely to support client work. You Will

  • Manage the preparation and review of federal and state tax returns for clients in the real estate sector.
  • Research and analyze tax issues, identifying potential risks, opportunities, and changes in tax policy, and communicate these to relevant stakeholders.
  • Assist with key decisions regarding tax filings, preparation, and responses to federal and state agencies.
  • Lead engagements from pre-planning through execution and delivery, serving as a key client contact for complex tax matters.
  • Review tax returns to ensure accuracy and compliance with a focus on partnership (1065) tax filings.
  • Mentor and develop junior staff, providing technical guidance and fostering a positive work environment.
  • Maintain and nurture strong client relationships, providing exceptional service and communication.

You Have

  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • CPA or EA license.
  • 5+ years of tax experience in public accounting, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or managerial role.
  • Experience with real estate tax matters - Form 1065 (partnership tax return) experience is required.
  • Proficiency in tax compliance and planning including familiarity with individual tax filings.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple clients and deliver results in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong analytical, research, and writing skills.
  • Excellent leadership and client management abilities.
  • Proficiency in tax software and technology, including Axcess Tax, ProSystem Tax, CCH Engagement, Caseware, and XCM is a plus.

You Might Have: (but it's okay if you don't)

  • Familiarity with Preferred Equity partnership structures, capital accounting, and special allocations for Schedule K-1 reporting.
  • Experience with Opportunity Zones (OZ), Renewable Energy Tax Credits (RETC), Historical Tax Credits (HTC), Housing and Urban Development (HUD), New Markets Tax Credits (NMTC), forecasting, real estate developers, and cost segregation.

Compensation Details

The base salary range targeted for this role is $125,000/yr - $155,000/yr. This salary range represents BerryDunn’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. If an applicant possesses experience, education, or other qualifications in excess of the minimum requirements for this posting, that applicant is encouraged to apply and a final salary range may then be based on those additional qualifications; compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, years of experience, depth of experience, seniority, merit, education, training, amount of travel, and other relevant business considerations.
