Overview

BerryDunn’s Medicaid Practice Group, with headquarters in Portland, Maine, focuses nationally on serving the organizational, program, information technology, and management needs of local and state government agencies. We have worked with hundreds of government agencies throughout the United States. 

 

BerryDunn is seeking a Medicaid IT Project Manager responsible for working with client and vendor teams as they implement their Medicaid enterprise systems (MES). This position is planned to sit remotely servicing our Medicaid client in Puerto Rico. You will bring a mix of demonstrated project management capabilities, strong procurement expertise, exceptional organizational and self-management qualities, strong leadership capabilities, and effective written and verbal communication skills. Experience with organizational change management is a plus. 

 

You will be working across multiple modules focusing on areas such as Provider, Enterprise Data Warehouse, Encounters, Financial, Member Eligibility and Enrollment, and other MES modules as identified. As part of our consulting team focused on state Medicaid agency clients, as Medicaid IT Project Manager you will leverage your problem-solving abilities, along with project management, and systems knowledge to help Medicaid agencies improve the health and lives of individuals.

  

The Medicaid IT Project Manager will report to and partner with senior management in our Medicaid team both for client work and career development. The Medicaid IT Project Manager will bring a mix of demonstrated project management capabilities, strong relationship management skills, and deep systems implementation experience. With a growth mindset, you will drive your development with the support of a learning and development culture. 

 

Travel Expectations:  A willingness to travel up to 50% is required.

You Will

  • Lead and support the procurement, design, development, and implementation of Medicaid systems on time, within scope, and within budget, including assigning and managing staff and creating work products. 
  • Draft outcomes, metrics, and requirements in support of MES procurements, certification efforts, and implementations.
  • Develop and/or contribute toward the development of project deliverables, including technical deliverables and procurement documentation.
  • Provide expert guidance ensuring the program, policy, and business needs of the State Medicaid Agency (SMA) are correctly captured in the SMA’s procurement, requirements, and design. 
  • Communicate project and delivery status to our clients, team members, and other stakeholders, including the facilitation of client meetings.
  • Provide oversight, facilitation, tracking, and management of select MES module implementations.
  • Provide systems expertise with a strong understanding of the vendor marketplace and systems implementations.
  • Build relationships with team members including client contacts, stakeholders, and vendor contacts.
  • Utilize knowledge and experience to lead and project manage client projects, particularly Medicaid systems projects. This includes helping develop client deliverables such as complex analysis reports, ongoing status reports, data and technical strategy plans, and presentations. 

You Have

  • Bachelor’s degree - May substitute four years of applicable experience for degree. 
  • Minimum of 7 years’ experience working on systems implementation projects in areas such as requirements gathering, requirements management and tracking, programming, release management, systems architecture, and/or testing activities 
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience supporting a State Medicaid Agency or a large healthcare provider management organization
  • Managed, participated in, and/or otherwise contributed to at least 5 MES or HHS procurements
  • Strong knowledge and/or experience with Medicaid Management Information System (MMIS), Eligibility and Enrollment Systems, and/or applicable HHS solutions
  • Ability to balance multiple assignments and achieve quality results in a timely manner 
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills 
  • Strong research skills, and ability to synthesize and present information from sources such as vendors and state and federal regulations
  • Proficient with Microsoft desktop applications and standard document repositories such as MS SharePoint 

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Project Management certification through Project Management Institute (PMP or CAPM) 
  • Experience working in a national or regional consulting firm, with the State Medicaid Agency, or for vendors on system design and implementation of Medicaid modules, data warehouses, and/or eligibility systems. 
  • Foundational understanding of relationship database configuration and integration concepts
  • Familiarity with Atlassian Suite (e.g., Jira and Confluence) or similar software development and collaboration tools
  • Preference given to candidates fluent in English and Spanish

Compensation Details

The base salary range targeted for this role is $120,000 - $140,000. This salary range represents BerryDunn’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. If an applicant possesses experience, education, or other qualifications in excess of the minimum requirements for this posting, that applicant is encouraged to apply, and a final salary range may then be based on those additional qualifications; compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, years of experience, depth of experience, seniority, merit, education, training, amount of travel, and other relevant business considerations.
