Overview

BerryDunn is seeking a thoughtful, creative, and success-oriented Proposal/Business Development Manager to drive business development activities for our growing Consulting Team (CT). Our ideal candidate is a leader with a passion for driving business through analysis, problem solving, and the use of industry knowledge. Important to the role are critical thinking skills, intellectual curiosity, strong attention to detail, exceptional customer service, and an ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.

 

This position will report to the Director of Business Development and manage a small team of proposal writers and coordinators.

Responsibilities

Lead the team’s people management:

  • Run a fast-moving team that develops multiple proposals each month and conducts a wide variety of business development tasks
  • Navigate the daily decisions for effective resource management across the team
  • Provide leadership and coaching to a team of proposal writers and coordinators to ensure proposal responses and other work products are timely, error-free, well-written, and free from inconsistencies

Lead the team’s proposal management:

  • Analyze CT and cross-practice procurement documents, provide strategic analysis, and work with the CT leadership team to make informed and timely opportunity decisions
  • Conduct background research, competitive and pricing analysis, and debrief analysis related to pipeline opportunities
  • Review and provide strategic guidance to proposals such as the executive summary, project understanding, positioning strategies, and key messaging
  • Oversee an effective process for proposal content collaboration across business development and consulting teams
  • Maintain and manage the team’s pipeline in Salesforce
  • Educate the CT leadership team on master contracts used to simplify the procurement process and limit competition

Lead the team’s strategic business development:

  • Monitor the government market for opportunities that align with the firm’s core services, strategic priorities, and targets
  • Manage leads that come in from Marketing efforts with the goal of turning them into opportunities
  • Work with Marketing and the CT leadership team to strategize on messaging and collateral for conferences and proactive meetings with clients/prospects
  • Support the CT leadership team in proactively pursuing business with prospects and clients as they identify project needs, build relationships, and share information on the firm's services and areas of expertise
  • Occasionally participate in selected conferences and/or proactive meetings
  • Participate as an active member of the Business Development management team to promote knowledge sharing, collaboration, and consistency across practice areas

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master's Degree
  • Minimum of 6-8 years of experience leading business development initiatives including strategic positioning, relationship development, competitive analysis, and proposal development, preferably in a professional services environment
  • Project management, leadership, and diplomacy skills, with a customer service focus
  • Excellent organization, time management, and problem solving
  • Strong writing, editing, research, and analysis skills
  • People management experience and success as the leader of a small team
  • Proven ability and comfort level working effectively in a fast-paced environment with competing priorities and strict deadlines
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Proficient in Microsoft Products: Outlook, Word, SharePoint, Teams, Project, Visio, Excel, Publisher, and PowerPoint

Preferred Skills and Qualifications:

  • Experience with government procurement processes
  • Prior experience with a professional services firm in a business development, marketing, or consulting role
  • Experience with Salesforce and proposal automation software

Compensation Details

The base salary range targeted for this role is $85,000 - $105,000. This salary range represents BerryDunn’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. If an applicant possesses experience, education, or other qualifications in excess of the minimum requirements for this posting, that applicant is encouraged to apply, and a final salary range may then be based on those additional qualifications; compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, years of experience, depth of experience, seniority, merit, education, training, amount of travel, and other relevant business considerations.
